Museum of Contemporary Art

Place for new perspectives

The Museum of Contemporary Art - Skopje is a symbol of solidarity, which as a lasting value remains engraved in the collective memory of the Macedonian public.

Our goal is to preserve, protect, study, and upgrade the collection of over 5500 works of art and, by exhibiting them to the public, to facilitate the understanding of contemporary art and society.

The museum building consists of three connected buildings, which house the halls for temporary exhibitions, the space for permanent exhibitions, the lecture hall, the library and archive, and other rooms that you can visit.

We organize and present exhibitions, events, artist talks, discussions with the public, film and video screenings, lectures, publications and more programs due to the wide range of contemporary cultural practices.

Very strange experience. Google Maps showed it as an abandoned walkway, but when we got there, I had to buy a ticket even though there was basically nothing to see. We even had to ask to be let outside to view the only exhibition/installation they had. Overall, very random — and even the bathrooms didn’t have toilet paper.

Checked online that museum was open. Then it wasn't, but the lady let us in because she acknowledged the website said it was. The ground floor was dedicated to architectural drawings, and the upper floor was being prepared for another exhibition, so the highlight of our visit was a chewed pencil on a white plinth. Go to the national gallery instead, much more to see and in a great building (although sadly smelled strongly of cigarettes throughout).

The only problem is, I took the help of Google Maps, I walked through somewhere nowhere, I found nothing, turned back and went around someplace, somehow I find the building. There is no sign of the museum. Inside of it is great, it has such a wonderful view. There are different exhibitions going on at the same time. It was nice.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje is situated on a hill near the city’s medieval fortress, offering panoramic views of Skopje from all directions—including the east, west, and the south-facing Vodno Mountain.

This modernist landmark was built following the 1963 earthquake as part of the city’s architectural revival and stands today as a symbol of Skopje’s modern identity. Designed by prominent architects, the museum features a clean, elegant design, abundant natural light from both its sides and rooftop, and a thoughtful integration with the surrounding landscape.

The museum regularly hosts a range of cultural events, from contemporary art exhibitions to musical and community gatherings. Most recently, it was the venue for the charter celebration of the newest Rotary Club in the city—Rotary Club Skopje Kamen Most.

Interesting architecture with a very quiet atmosphere. Great place to visit with interesting artworks exhibitions and film. Costs about 2 euros to see. The atmosphere is great and you might find yourself sitting down lost in thought. I think it was gifted by the Polish government from what I read. But overall 10/10 and a great place to be when visiting Skopje.
