The exhibition entitled “Social City” emerged from the materials initially collected for the research of Jana Konstantinova, conducted at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL in Switzerland. The exhibition is curated by Oliver Ilievski, who selected and arranged the material with the idea of an integral display to allow the visitor to actively engage and become a temporary citizen of the Social City. The exhibition presents event posters, films, photographs and architectural drawings, which are part of the rich collection of 400 artifacts collected within the framework of the interdisciplinary research.
The basic concept of the exhibition is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and to deviate from the current definitions of the market-oriented "creative city" with a focus on entertainment and leisure, and urbanism that primarily deals with energy efficiency through the sustainability paradigm, neglecting the issue of man and his well-being. To this end, the research treats urban planning and cultural planning as a whole.
In the same spirit, it aims to replace the current “creative city” with a new “one-stop shop” model, discovered in Yugoslav cities and characterized by special social, cultural and artistic qualities that are beneficial both for the development of individual talents and for the well-being of the community. By borrowing from the examples of the past, it shows how the cities of the future – which now choose solutions mainly in the field of sustainability technologies – will benefit from integrating these innovations and strategies focused on people, as well as social, cultural and artistic elements in their design.
A documentary film by Ilija Pavlov will also be screened within the exhibition. Exhibition design by BaC2SX; poster design by Mateja Nikolić.
The exhibition is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture within the framework of the Interdisciplinary Program 2022.
